This Year…Nutrition Tops the List!

Burpee BOOST CollectionHealth and wellness continue to drive purchase patterns – and increase sales – as more consumers seek natural, wholesome foods. New Nutrition Business recently identified 10 key trends in the food industry for 2011 – eight are directly linked to health and nutrition. These trends correspond to a rising demand for high-nutrition foods, especially those with antioxidants. Food producers have responded to that demand with great success. Now it presents a profitable opportunity for growers and retailers as well.

The explosive growth in vegetable gardening is a direct result of consumer demand for healthy foods. Ball Horticultural Company has taken it one step further, responding to consumer interest in the benefits of antioxidants with BOOST, a high-nutrition vegetable collection, available in the Burpee Home Gardens line. This new collection was selected for higher antioxidant levels than any other home garden vegetable varieties.

A few quick tips for healthy eating:

  1. Start your meal with a simple fresh salad and fill up with good stuff!
  2. Use color as a guide to fill your plate. You’ll naturally seek out green and red veggies to balance your meats and starches.
  3. Always cook extra vegetables to keep as leftovers. Even if your time is limited, you can have veggies with every meal.
  4. Just like plants, we need plenty of water. Drink at least one large glass of water before or with ever meal.
  5. Seek out higher nutrition in every bite. Add a slice of tomato or spinach leaves to increase the value of your main dish.

BOOST is already creating plenty of buzz among growers and retailers. Because it’s the only collection of high-antioxidant vegetables available, BOOST is ideal for premium positioning and pricing. BOOST is also supported at retail with free POP and extensive consumer advertising and promotion. For more information, visit www.BurpeeRetailIdeaCenter.com.
